
Testing out Kevin Roche’s proposal for making the conversation pit more easily accessible, the Millers had larger cushions and a banister made. The photograph on the top has a mock-up of a seat cushion that would have nearly eliminated the pit altogether. The Millers opted for a banister and the type of cushions in the lower two photographs.

These photographs were sent to Mr. Miller by project manager Larry D. Hoffman to show progress on slate and marble installation in various areas of the house. They are the only known photographs taken of Miller House during construction.
