While we here in the IMA Archives take the utmost care to ensure the preservation of material in the Miller House and Garden Collection, we are sometimes reminded that this wasn’t always the case. Architectural drawings, material samples and pieces of correspondence passed through many hands (and building sites) over the 56 year period that the collection was amassed. Before the IMA took hold of the MHGC, parts of the collection even lived in a barn on the Miller property. The architectural drawings were stored in the basement of the Irwin Management Co. at 301 Washington Street in downtown Columbus, Indiana. As evidenced from the boot print we noticed while photographing this particular drawing, it wasn’t uncommon for blueprints and bluelines to be found on worksite floors.
